Highlights of Borneo Adventure

The name Kalimantan is derived from the Sanskrit word Kalamanthana, which means “scorchinghot weather island”, or very hot island,inreference to its hot and humid tropical climate. It iscomposed of two words kal[a] (“time, season, interval”) and manthan[a] (“boil,stir,burn”)duetotheIndianization culture, whichnative Indonesian Borneo callsTheir island was Pulu K’lemantan or “Kalimantan” when 16th-century Portuguese explorer Jorge de Menezes cameinto contact with them. Its connectionto the island and its people is also attributed to early20th-century British scientist and colonial administrator Charles Hose.

The Borneo orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) is a species of orangutan endemic to the island of Borneo. Along with the Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) and the Tapanuli orangutan (Pongo tapanuliensis), it belongs to the only genus of great apes native to Asia. Like other great apes, orangutans are highly intelligent, exhibitingdistinct tool use and cultural patterns in the wild.

DAY 1 Arrival in Banjarmasin Airport – Hotel – Canal Tour
Upon your arrival at Syamsuddinnor airport, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan province, meeting service with your guide/assistance who will escort you to hotel in Banjarmasin, arriving at the hotel then check in and free program, at 05.00 pm joing for canal tour to see the local people activities at the bank side of Kelayan River. Back to hotel and at 07.30 pm having dinner at Local restaurant. Back to hotel for overnight.

DAY 2 Hotel – Floating Market – Syamsuddinnoor Airport
Early morning around 5:30 a.m Banjarmasin time you will picked up to visit floating market in Kuin River, then boating down by traditional boat “Kelotok” for transferring to the floating market. It will take about 40 minutes to reach Floating market area. Along the trip you will see the activities of the people in the morning, typical houses surrounding the river bank. In the Floating market you will see all the buyer and seller meet in the Kuin river estuary for market transaction on the boat. This market already exists since hundred years ago. After that return to the hotel for having breakfast. At appropriate time, transfer to the airport to catch your flight to Pangkalan Bun. Arrival at pangkalan Bun, transfer to your hotel for overnight

DAY 3 Kumai – Proboscis Tour – Houseboat
After brekafast, meeting service then transfer to Kumai, seaport and the gate to reach National Park. Onboard, crossing Kumai river in approximately 15 minutes to reach Seikonyer river, the min river in National Park. Lunch will be served on boat by our own cook. We are riding on the boat about 2 hours to reach National Park. At 16.30 we continue our tour to observe Proboscis monkeys along the riverbanks. Proboscis monkeys are being the endemic animal that can be seen only in Borneo. Dinner and Overnight on the boat.

DAY 4 Houseboat – Pondok Tanggui – Camp Leakey – Houseboat
After break fast, we will do activity at Pondok Tanggui the second rehabilitation center where we can enjoy many babies and juveniles at feeding area around 09.00 AM, taking pictures while having the information from your guide about them. We continue our tour to reach the highlight of National Park, Camp Leakey area. It will pass the black river which is full of wildlife within such as many kind of birds, primates, fish, also crocodiles. At 12.00 is the lunch times which will be served by our own cook which special various food. Arriving at Camp Leakey, we have hiking track into the forest to gain information of the heterogen forest wildlife while observing some wild animal as well. We continue our tour by following orangutan feeding program which is being held at 14.00, bringing milk and fruits, feeders will lead us to the state platform. We will enjoy the situation till 16.00 back to the boat, downstream to Tanjung Harapan for overnight and having dinner.

DAY 5 Houseboat – Kumai – Pangkalan Bun Airport
Morning breakfast on the boat in Tanjung Harapan, then boating down the river back to Kumai. Direct transfer to Pangkalan Bun airport for your next destination.
